Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture

As a photographer in the digital age you are probably inundated with photos and need a good way to organize and catalog those photos. We have a few options, and two of the biggest are Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (www.adobe.com) and Apple Aperture (www.apple.com).

Lightroom is a non destructive system designed with the digital photographer in mind. While it is not a full replacement for Photoshop, it has import, develop and export functionality built-in and it allows you to do all but the finest of editing. Lightroom 2 is out now and version 3 is in public beta for Mac and Windows.

Aperture 3 came out recently and is similar to Lightroom, but is Mac only. The slide show feature is better than Lightroom out of the box and allows you to create video. Very cool in my opinion.

I have been using Lightroom for a few years now and find it to be an indispensable tool. While these are just two options, they are the top of the heap for what they do.
